Welcome to the Friends of Curtis Mill Park Website!
This site is dedicated to news and updates regarding the redevelopment of the former Curtis Paper Mill site into a one-of-a-kind destination for the greater Newark Community. This effort is being undertaken by the Friends of Curtis Mill Park - a group of interested citizens and the city of Newark working to see a new and exciting future rise from the old mill site.

Who is this guy?
Little Joe Curtis
"Little Joe was the name that the workers at the mill gave to the trade mark figure. I don't believe it was ever official in any way. I think he was officially known or described by the term, "quire boy" or the "Curtis Quire Boy." A quire is a collection of 24 or sometimes 25 sheets of paper of the same size and quality: one twentieth of a ream. Thus, "Little Joe" is seen carrying a quire of paper.
Personally, I never much cared for the endearment, Little Joe, but was probably alone in that feeling."
--Stewart Dotts, the last Plant Superintendent at Curtis Paper Mill
